LAURA DUSSELJEE

MUSICAL DIRECTOR

As a child, Laura wanted to be a ballet dancer when she grew up.  When this dream was thwarted, she resolved to continue following creative pursuits and studied music at The University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, majoring in piano studies.  In her graduate year as a teacher she was assigned to the choir because she could play the piano - thus a choral director was born!  Her passion for directing has continued to develop from this first gig and has, in fact, become her life's work.

Laura has been Musical Director of Women of Note since 2009 and has taken the choir to a new level of performing excellence.  A highlight with Women of Note has been leading them in overseas performances in South Africa (2013) and U.S.A. (2015).  She envisions that the choir will keep improving, keep travelling to interesting places and collaborating with other choirs and musicians in Australia and abroad.

At home, Laura has her radio firmly tuned to Classic FM, interspersed with an occasional rock tune from the likes of Queen.  She also directs choirs at Girton Grammar School and "Forever Young" - a rock choir for the over 65's!

PETER BUTLER

ACCOMPANIST

Peter has a long association with choirs, beginning as a young chorister with The Australian Boys Choir.  He arranges music for performances with his flautist wife, Jenny Gogolin and soprano, Pamela Jackson.  He also arranges many large works for choirs such as Mussorgsky's 'Pictures at an Exhibition'.  He was a music education lecturer at La Trobe University for thirty years from 1986.  His children's songs appear in publications throughout Australia and are performed by school choirs and community choirs across Australia and overseas.  Peter holds a PhD from The Australian National University School of Music.

Laura and Peter have been music education colleagues for many years and the opportunity to become the regular accompanist for Women of Note has been most serendipitous, challenging and rewarding.
